BedKeys housekeeping on a phone: rooms with a guest arriving today come first

Key points

  • For a small hotel, the simplest system that covers your must‑haves beats the biggest feature list.
  • Watch for costs that grow with you: booking fees, add‑ons per outlet, and minimum monthly charges.
  • Little Hotelier and Sirvoy are made for the smallest properties; BedKeys suits small hotels that also run a restaurant or want full accounts.
  • We make BedKeys. Every other fact is from the provider’s own website, read on 3 November 2026.

What a small hotel actually needs

  • Bookings and a room grid you can read at a glance
  • Housekeeping status the desk can trust, ideally from staff phones
  • Bills with tax shown, payments recorded and a balance that adds up
  • A booking engine for your own website, so direct guests can book without calling
  • A way to keep booking sites in step, if you sell through them
  • A price that fits a small hotel, and no long contract
  • A person to call when something goes wrong

Mistakes small hotels make when choosing

  • Comparing base prices only. Add booking fees, per‑outlet add‑ons and payment fees before you compare.
  • Buying for the hotel you might be in five years. Choose what works now, from a provider that grows with you.
  • Skipping the money test. Ask to see a wrong charge corrected and the end of day closed. Small hotels feel every missing cash shift.
  • Forgetting the way out. Check the contract length and how you get a full copy of your data.
